Why the Highest Standard of Care Begins Long Before a Match | IMA ART Fertility Beverly Hills

In conversations about surrogacy, much of the focus naturally falls on outcomes — timelines, medical protocols, logistics. But in our experience, the most meaningful work happens far earlier, and far more quietly.
Before there is a match, before there is a plan, there is a human decision.
A woman choosing to become a surrogate is making one of the most significant commitments of her life — physically, emotionally, and relationally. How, and why, she arrives at that decision matters deeply. Not just ethically, but structurally and emotionally, for everyone involved.
Stability Is Not a Checkbox
At IMA ART Fertility, we believe that true care begins with stability.
This includes financial stability, yes — but also emotional grounding, social support, and life circumstances that are not fragile or in flux. A surrogate’s household should not be dependent on the success of a surrogacy journey for survival. Her family should be supportive, informed, and secure in the decision.
When surrogacy becomes a financial necessity rather than a considered choice, the risks — emotional, relational, and practical — increase for everyone.
Listening for Motivation, Not Just Qualifications
One of the most overlooked questions in this process is also one of the most important:
Why is this woman choosing surrogacy, at this moment in her life?
This is not something that can be answered through forms or surface-level screening alone. It requires time, trust, and genuine conversation. It requires listening — not to persuade, but to understand.
Many agencies simply do not have the resources or structure to go that deep. At IMA ART Fertility, this responsibility is not delegated. Our co-founders, Ron and Michelle, personally conduct these conversations. Not to judge, but to ensure alignment, readiness, and informed consent at the most human level.

Care That Protects Everyone Involved
At IMA ART Fertility, our approach is not about perfection or guarantees — those simply do not exist in life, or in family-building. It is about thoughtful risk mitigation: reducing avoidable strain before it arises and protecting the dignity and well-being of the women who make these journeys possible, as well as the families who place their trust in them.
Our role is one of careful gatekeeping. We apply high standards from the earliest stages to ensure stability, readiness, and alignment — so that only candidates who appear well-supported and thoughtfully motivated move forward. From there, all clinical determinations, including psychological evaluations, are conducted independently by licensed professionals, such as PhD-level clinical psychologists, whose assessments are essential to the process.
Much of this work happens quietly, behind the scenes, and is rarely discussed in detail — by design — ensuring both discretion and a boutique, high-touch experience.

A Gentle Note on Discretion
Out of respect for privacy and autonomy, we do not disclose individual screening frameworks or personal assessments. Each journey is unique, and our approach is intentionally human-led rather than procedural. What we can share is our guiding principle: every surrogate should enter the process from a place of stability, informed choice, and genuine readiness — never pressure, urgency, or necessity.
In an industry where speed and scale are often rewarded, we continue to believe that discernment is the highest form of care.
Because how a journey begins shapes everything that follows.
